House is an environmental filter.
The sun and wind were the 2 major environmental factors that needed to be controlled in the design of this cabin. By understanding the sun directions and wind directions I was able to design my house around them.
The house allows for ventilation through summer, windows were placed such that adequate air could flow through the house to cool down during hot days.
Wooden louvres were placed over the work room window and the bedroom window. These louvres are able to be opened and closed depending on how much sunlight the person wants to allow in.

Other design elements of the house to filter the environment-
- Sliding glass doors on the northern and eastern sides of the living room
- Wooden panels around reflection space to protect from weather and increase privacy
House is a container of human activities.
The spatial layout of this house was designed to accommodate an architect and their partner. Being such a small size, I think it is important to be able to have different zones in the house, especially whilst having a work office included. The lower level of the house is the more in formal areas- Living, dining, kitchen, outdoor deck. These areas are for the occupants to relax, whilst being aware that they are not in a private area. Up stairs, the bedroom, work office and reflection space are located. These are more private areas.

Uses and reasons behind each room-
Bedroom- The obvious need to sleep was the main driving factor behind designing a bedroom, it is situated in the upper level to keep it a private space, for just the occupants. The bedroom has an outdoor balcony which becomes the reflection space.
Reflection space- This space is where the occupants can come to relax and be in their own little zone. The space is almost closed off, but not fully. Allowing views over the park.
Living space- The living space is on ground level, it is a more public area of the house and is able to open up to the outdoor deck through the North and Eastern glass sliding windows.
Work space- The work space is located furtherest away from the entrance to the house, this was because I wanted the work space to be taken as almost separate to the house. I believe the house and work should be 2 different things and not directly related.
House is a delightful experience.
The natural lighting of this cabin is its greatest asset, it captures a lot of light and the space is lit up. The views of the park also play a huge part in the delight experienced in this space. From the living room you are given a glimpse of the park (Due to the elevated deck) this invites the occupant to the outdoor deck where they can experience the park closely whilst still being in their own private sanctuary.
Simple use of materials in the house help to increase alertness to the surrounding environment, which to me is a very important aspect. The use of contrast between timber and concrete helps distinguish different spaces or a change in space.

The rooms in the house are all designed around privacy and environmental conditions. Each room has been through a different thought process to maximise the delight gained from each space. Angles of views, lighting and ventilation all work together to create a highly delightful space.
